Like most journalists of a certain age, the duo behind Bite prefers the focus be on the subjects of their stories rather than themselves. But you better believe Michelle Jacoby and Mark Lipczynski have the chops behind their editorial efforts.
After 13 years as a writer and editor at The Arizona Republic, Michelle left the daily newspaper world to consult on a range of trade and lifestyle publications. After managing content and creation for a number of local and regional titles, the accolades have followed. Among them, Prime Living was awarded Best Niche Lifestyle publication in 2011; MASK Magazine was named one of the 15 Hottest Launches of the Year in 2011 by the Magazine Innovation Center; and Process magazine took home the Best Niche B2B Magazine award from Niche Media in 2013.
While you can take the gal out of the newsroom, you can’t take the reporter out of the girl. Michelle always has her eyes and ears open to the stories that don’t make it into the press release, the craft behind the foods she loves, and inspirations behind the designs and images she admires.
Michelle may be the social networker of the group, but Mark is equally skilled at spotting stories and trends through the lens of his camera. He often tells people he “speaks in pictures,” and is more comfortable relating to people when he has a camera in hand. While he may not want to be the center of attention, his observations are usually the most interesting stories in the room.
Mark also comes from a daily newspaper background, honing his photography skills in both candid news and feature story layouts. He now travels Arizona and the world focusing his lens on food, people, and cultures. His images have been featured in Food & Wine, Phoenix Magazine, and Arizona Highways.
Together Mark and Michelle bring their shared knowledge of food cities, words, and pictures together to make Bite more than just another food blog. That’s what we call chops, and we’re ready to dig in.
